I went a little crazy with Titanium backup and erased (as opposed to renamed) cityid.apk
Can someone send me a backup from version 2.2
    Much appreciated in advance

This just goes to show that one person's junk is another person's treasure ;) :)

Not making fun, but funny that most people are running away for City ID, but some actually use it. :)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but how do I get the .apk file into the system/app folder? I tried copy-pasting in Astro, but it won't let me.

You have to either do this from recovery via "adb push", or if you have S-OFF you can remount the /system partition rw and do it from the live system (Root Explorer being the easiest way to do the latter).

I know this thread is old but being on a custom ROM now I miss having this installed. I tried installing the apk above and it won't install..."application failed to install" Does anyone have an apk that will work? Thanks in advance

I got this one a while back before I rooted. It's not the exact same program as CityID, but it does the exact same thing. Just no pop up asking to pay for it. The placement of the text could be better, but it works and it's free.

Oh, just an FYI though, I have NOT tried to install it since I rooted my phone.

I'll give it a try. when you say text placement could be better, do you mean on the caller id screen itself? I'm kinda confused. Also, does CityID (the original VZW) not work on rooted phones? There's an .apk above in this thread that I tried and it wouldn't install. That would make sense if root is the reason

On my phone, the text is at the bottom of the screen and overlaps the answer/decline buttons. You can still press the buttons just fine though.

I haven't bothered to install the original cityid program because I don't want the stupid pop ups.

EDIT: Just installed it on my phone and it works perfectly. I also stumbled onto the settings and found that if you set it to display high, then it doesn't cover any buttons. W00t!

I did the same thing as the OP. I did download the apk, and installed fine. MY question is will OTA updates download and work ok now? DOes the file need to be in the system folder before OTA updates work?

Sorry to bump this thread, but by putting this in my system\app directory then I should be good to go for an OTA, right? Also, is VZ Navigator required for the OTA as well? I downloaded that from the Market and moved that .apk to my system\app directory as well, but I just want to make sure that's the right one.

So what ever happened? did this particular apk work as far as allowing you to get the OTA working?

I can't seem to get that APK to install on my phone. I tried getting into my phone using adb on my mac but my device wont show up (maybe because it is rooted? Although that wouldn't really make sense...)

If anyone has any tips on how to do this with a droid 2 and a mac that would be great. Looking to get the Gingerbread update.

It's probably an old .apk, maybe it won't even accept an older version?? If you're still on the stock rom, you might be better off with a factory reset.

Will a factory reset put CityID back on my phone? If it will, that's totally worth it.

Yeah but I mis-spoke. Meant to say RUU, not factory reset. I'm not familiar with your device but I imagine the current RUU is available somewhere.

What is the RUU? I have a Motorola Droid 2, a pretty common phone.

he didn't mean he never heard of the phone, just that he is not familiar with troubleshooting it. This is the HTC incredible forum... Try posting your question here:

Try finding the 2.2 sbf file for your phone, or the 2.3 if you want gingerbread.
