Help Missing Contact Avatar in Hangouts

In all hangouts (whether hangout or SMS or MMS), my own contact avatar is not displaying. The avatar is showing for all other contacts. The only one missing is my own.
My photo is displaying correctly in contacts as well as on my G+ profile. I tried rebooting my phone but that didn't reset it.
Does anyone have an idea of how to fix it or diagnose the problem?

Click the SMS tab in the upper left corner. Choose your email account and your contact picture will be displayed.
