Help mms compression?

MMS compression. Has this been fixed?
I've seen a few answers but for different phones. And usually the post is ignored.

Is it Android itself? (I don't have the problem with unlocked Symbian on the same plan)

Does rooting fix it?

Does Handcent fix it?

I do want to root the phone but want a good working backup in case I have a problem. This MMS bit seems to be the last one to solve.

I've seen a post saying that this is caused by a preventative solution to sexting.

Please advise.

You can change the MMS compression rate in most of the major SMS apps such as:
Stock, handcent, go sms, chompsms.

Check in the settings. Adjust higher or lower to your desired level. I usually leave it at 600kb.
