I tried to send my friend some pics that I took with my phone. When I do, my only option is mms and they cannot open the picture when they recieve the text. Am I doing something wrong?

When including an object in the message, other than plain text, it'll always be an MMS. You are probably doing nothing wrong, but the receivers apparently are.
