I'm looking to write an app which needs to include the ability to switch mobile data on and off. Looking at the discussions so far the main way used by apps is to change the APN name, but this seems pretty ugly.

On my phone, there is a widget to do this, so it must be possible programatically.

Does anyone have up to date info about whether this is possible in the current api versions.

I didn't understand what you want, then.

You might look at an app called Widgetsoid and see how it does just that. It does rename the APN but I think it also uses some other methods. Don't know how much it discusses the way it does it, though.
