So I see the stuff in the download ROM section does this just save to your sdcard I assume?
  6. nitsuj17

    nitsuj17 Android Expert

saps its saves to sdcard - clockworkmod-download

which is good to knwo for kernels as i always wipe davlik first and rom manager doesnt give you an option. so i would download it, not install it, boot to clockwork and and do it on my own.

I havent dl'd anything thru rom manager yet. Im too focused on kernels. Dang I have a folder on my sdcard called kernels and I got 16-17 kernels in there now. I should probably get rid of some of the ones I know I'll never use anymore

haha i hear ya...my sdcards are always a mess...my kernel folder has a ton in there that the names start to become meaningless after awhile and my theme folders are all screwy with the fraken-themes i keep trying to make on my phone.

my droid x was a freaking mess when i finally wiped the sdcard before selling it, just insanity of garbage.

rom manager is great on the incredible for roms and add ons that devs do like lockscreens etc, but honestly when the file is available on the web or the phone ill install it 75% off the web just cuz i get used to it.

in time with the sf like any other phone more and more stuff will appear there.

i remember with the droid x when birdman made the first "rom" it didnt compile right so he had a folder in rom manager that was blank but held off posting for a day......and it was like the only thing in there minus a stock 2.2 image.

everyone was freaking out that there was something in there and that their rom manager was broken and they couldnt access the rom

it was kinda funny looking back on it.

I downloaded it to my SD, renamed to update.zip, booted into clockwork, applied the update.zip, then cleared davlik cache, and then rebooted.... and I still have 3-second timeout.

    Running the voodoo kernel 0.2.

    Any thoughts?

after changing flashing a different service.jar when tinkering with something and loosing the exln, i tried doing it through rom manager and it didnt work either  actually i noticed when it booted to clockwork to install it said installation:aborted

i then went back in and flashed the 15 sec version from xda and it worked fine. people in irc are saying the rom manager one doesnt work and obviously i cant attest to that.

get the version from xda. i can say for sure 15 seconds works, havent tried the 10 or 32.

edit: hahah i forgot the directions, you have to wipe davlik cache after you install from rom manager....guess thats why it didnt work :)

    skipster Member

Thanks. I had the XDA 32 sec version, that didn't work, then the ROM Manager one 32 sec one... that didn't work... I will try the XDA 15-sec one.

wipe davlik cache...that appears to be the magic ingredient

Just tried the 15-sec, wiped davlic cache.... still 3 seconds.... renamed the file in /system/framework.... rebooted... got a long verizon logo, then....nothing... I am not panicing YET, going to give it a few minutes to figure itself out.

Waited 15 mins, decided I was borked... de-borking in process, thank the Almighty I took a backup first.

De-borked... :) I think I will hold off on modifications for the rest of the night.

I'm having similar issues as Skipster (minus the borking, thankfully).

I downloaded the 15sec from XDA to my sdcard. Tried twice, first by "install zip from sdcard" method, followed by a davlik cache wipe--didn't work. Went back, renamed it to update.zip and did it that way, again, followed by a cache wipe. Still getting the darn 3 seconds.

    Any ideas?

My SF isn't running anything fancy; aside from root+clockwork and a couple mods, all I've got is Voodoo. No oc's/kernel's yet. :p

I'll defer to nitsuj on this but I think you guys need a deodexed ROM dont you?
  18. nitsuj17

    nitsuj17 Android Expert

DONT NAME ANYTHING UPDATE.ZIP even if its in a folder you dont want to take the chance that you accidently move it at some point and overwrite the one needed for clockwork.

i can attest that the exl DO work, ive gotten to work from by installing the zip after wiping davlik (and then i wiped again after install) and also i pulled the service.jar from the zip and stuck it on the root of the sdcard.

try and a wipe before and after.

I still can't get it to work. Tried from CWM and then from ROM Manager. Wiped Dalvik cache each time. No luck.

Is it because I removed some of the stock bloatware? I ask because it's been said that OTA updates (especially update to Froyo) might not work if you removed certain apps.

Really want the 32 sec mod :(

It would be GREAT if backlighting was tied to the screen's timeout, i.e. key backlight goes off when screen goes off; on when screen is on.

are you on a stock kernel?

the *only* thing i can think of why it isnt working would be a kernel possibly. i dont know if anyone on a stock kernel has tried this. all the kernels im using now have bln support built in, so i dont know if that is what is enabling the exl to work.

anyone on a stock kernel care to comment?
  21. Bearly

    Bearly Android Expert

Hmm, I have Voodoo Lagfix v0.2

Would that be a reason why it's not working? I'm on stock kernel, otherwise.

I just tried it again. Wiped Dalvik before AND after installing the zip. No luck.

Just ONCE the backlight was on indefinitely...only turned off when the screen turned off (I hit the power button). That was nice but it didn't stick.

    you need a deodexed rom...

im going to work on a fix for non deodexed....

ill keep you all updated :)

haha, why do i always look for the a more complicated issue

I am SOOO a member of the Borked Brigade... on every device I've owned in fact. I have even borked Mainframes back in the day, so I know from borking!!!

I am on stock kernel with voodoo 0.2... thats the issue. I may decide to swap back to the droid for a day so I can hack the sh*t out of this with a deodexed rom... the hour I was without a working phone today was the longest hour since I bricked my touch Pro 2 back in May!!!
