One of my friends is giving me an HTC Thunderbolt for free, so all I would have to do is switch it with my current phone (which still has an antenna.) However, I was wondering if there would be any monthly fees that would be added onto my Verizon account? Do 4G and 3G cost any money? Is there anything else that would cost money?

Is this about the same cost as most other non-Android phones cost monthly? (Sorry, but this is my first Android/non-ancient phone.)

All smartphones require a smartphone data plan, so yes, this is the same as many others including non-Android phones. There is also no additional charge for 4g data speed. Many people pay the same price and get much slower data. Many Thunderbolt users are in an area that does not yet have 4g.

Ah, that makes sense. I've never even had a smartphone before. This was just meerly luck lol. So the smartphone data plan is about 30 bucks? Is that about the same as a non-smartphone?

I have unlimited call & text within Verizon for a phone that's not a smartphone. I was just wondering if it would cost extra monthly for the thunderbolt?:)

Welcome to the 20th century! You couldnt have picked a better phone though. I am slightly curious what phone youre coming from. LG?

They have a couple different plans for data, and the one thats not on a smart phone is $9.99, the one for the smartphone(which is MANDATORY) is $39.99. For now 3g/4g/5g/835687435627346g dont matter till they introduce tiered data. The type of smart phone you have doesnt factor into it. Make sure you get a sim card, and make sure you get an SD card if the one hes giving you doesnt have one. They come stock with a 32 gig card. You can get a decent 16 gig from Frys.com for like 15 bucks or so.

You won't have to pay for this but you will have to go to Verizon to get a 4G sim card and have them program it for you. I got my Thunderbolt through a craigslist deal and had to take it in. It's all pretty easy.

Hopefully your phone doesn't have a locked ESN. Your friend didn't just stop paying their bill and just give your their phone, did they?

No he didn't. He ended up getting a second one, but by then, his first one was working.

He needs to send it back if the 2nd phone is a warranty replacement.

THIS, If he does not send back the defective phone he will be charged full retail for the replacement. It will have a bad ESN before long if thats the case....unless of course your friend just pays for it, and if thats the case then give him my number because I could use a new friend :D
