The car/a/c vent mount called "Car Air Vent Mount Holder For Samsung Galaxy Note" and sold by
eBay My World - fj2010-store is worth every penny I paid and then some.

For $5 I was expecting something real cheep and that would only work once. I WAS WRONG. The quality is more like $20-ish so I expect this to last at least a 6 months to a year, but at $5, who cares. It is a perfect fit to my AT&T Note and installs in 1 second with no damage. Plus I can transfer it between my Dodge Intrepid and my Dodge Durango when needed with zero issues. If you need an inexpensive car mount that hooks to your a/c vent, look no further. Pictures attached

PS, I have no idea what the 2 small adapters are used for, as I did not need them

EDIT Check out my two posts below for more pictures a video and my tripod mount:

MORE INFO
It will work, the hook and black clip part rotates. So you can turn it 90 degrees

The black square part around the clip (in front of the spring) move away form the hook squishing the spring and opening the hook area, then the hook, grabs the back of the vent and push (slightly) push the black square thing to latch on the front of the vent fin.

Here are some pics and video of the hook/clip and how it works

TRIPOD MOUNTING
Ok this mount just went up 1000 points in coolness factor. I was able to use one of the extra adapters to make a tripod mount. I screwed the extra adapter to my Dynes DX-NW080 tripod's camera adapter; placed the new modified adapters on the tripod, attached the holder for the phone and it is all setup. Plus the tripod and adapter are centered enough that I get a 100% clear picture without any of the tripod showing in the picture. Since the tripod allows for the area that the adapter attaches to to lay horizontal and vertical, I can take pictures and videos in landscape or portrait mounted to a tripod.

Attached are picture of how I put the adapters together, the adapter on the tripod, the positions of the tripod head, how the phone clip mounts and one picture showing my front door with the phone mounted to show you cannot see any of the tripod or adapter. Just wanted to share more info about this.

So if you have a tripod with an extra removable camera adapter and do not mind screwing the extra adapter to it, you now have a tripod mount :D

Damn i have vertical not horizontal slits in my car otherwise i would so grab one

It will work, the hook and black clip part rotates. So you can turn it 90 degrees

How strong is the grip on the part that looks like it hooks to vent, how does it attach?

The black square part around the clip (in front of the spring) move away form the hook squishing the spring and opening the hook area, then the hook, grabs the back of the vent and push (slightly) push the black square thing to latch on the front of the vent fin.

Here are some pics and video of the hook/clip and how it works

Well after a few days of switching back and forth between the cars every day (I know a little too much use, but I wanted to test it), it is still as strong as it was one day one. Also I found that since the hook can spin, it started to bug me that the phone would rotate slightly when I did not want it to. Since all of my vehicles have horizontal vents, I just ran a piece of tape around the screw part to keep it from spinning, man made a difference. Still lovin this $5 find

Thank you for the review james27007. I've been trying to find a good car mount for my new Galaxy Note I717.

In the past I've been skeptical of vent mounts because they look like they would block the airflow of my AC, or break the fragile louvers. However, over the past year as I've used an iPhone 4 in a windshield mount I found that the constantly running GPS, display, Audible or Pandora app, and the sun cause the phone to get ridiculously hot. Heat kills two things quickly: battery life, and computer stability. Because of that I'm ready to share my AC with my smartphone. From your pictures I also see that I don't have to completely give up the airflow to the smartphone.

My remaining concern is how much stress is placed on the vent louvers. Many are car AC vents are so weak that they break by themselves, without hanging a smartphone and bracket on them. I know you can't you speak for all car vents out there, but maybe you can tell us your gut feeling on how much pressure you're applying to the vent mechanism as you attach, and remove it.

Thanks james27707 for taking the time to post your find, insights, and photos.

Your links in first post go to two different sellers, fyi.

Thank you, the seller was great so I wanted to send him the business. I deleted the link, so all someone needs to do is follow to the seller's or use my keywords as the search.

By the way, even after all this time and traveling to Phoenix with it, it is still in perfect working order.

I ordered one but thinking I'll need to get the official car-mount anyway. Using this mount, how do you get the phone into 'car-dock' mode? I've downloaded the samsung 'car home' from the market but it doesn't work very well. It only uses a portion of the screen (smaller pixel real estate, centered) and I can't get the music app to work. What are you using when the phone is docked?

Update: received mine, works pretty well. has 2 clips that mount to holder, only one of which actually mounts to the phone holder. Not sure what the 2nd clip is for, as I see no way to attach it to phone or phone holder (large plastic surround for phone). The phone slips in and out very easily but also stays put securely.

Since I can't activate a 'car dock' mode, I use the dock clock mode. works pretty well.
