hi there!
my phone is using 132mb out of 147mb internal storage and is throwing up the dreaded 'low on internal storage' msg. i'd like to move anything i can to my 16gb memory card. all the apps that i can move to my SD card have been moved, but obviously there are some apps that can't and some that need to stay on the phone to run.
problem 1 - i don't know how to even access the apps on my SD card when plugged in.
problem 2 - i don't know how to access my internal memory to see what's even on it that's taking up so much space.

can anyone help me with this problem of accessing my internal storage and clearing it a bit. i'd REALLY appreciate it!!

thanks,
kira :]

Any good explorer or file browser from the market will allow you to look at your os file structure. There is even an app that will tell you what is using all your drive space. But nothing short of root and aps2sd++ will allow you to garner any more space on the phone. There are many times many forums regarding these procedures and I truly recommend the process as you will gain not only space but speed and usability.

This is the downside to the Desire - great phone, no internal storage

Only way to really get round it is to root and use A2SD+ which moves all apps (and app data) to the SD card

Hi, I don't mean to highjack this thread as I am in the same boat as kiratomic and I'm growing a little tired of it. Now that I've agreed to keep this phone for the next 12 months, I think I should probably tackle rooting. Could anyone please point me in the right direction for a "Dummies" guide to rooting the Desire? Is it on here, XDA forums or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance.

If you read my FAQ in the thread above, it links to a good unrevoked guide. the "root guide for dummies" or whatever is a very outdated guide.

A proper ext4 partition and apps2whereever or apps2sd++ the OS will not even know that it is installing directly to the ext partition on your card. It will see the ext partition as one large (up to 1gig max) drive to install to. ALL apps will run smoothly and the OS is very much excelerated by this. goo HERE For all your needs and Knowledge.

thanks guys! i don't think i'm going to try rooting my phone because i'm way too clumsy..
i have AndExplorer, Astro, internal & SD storage widgets and i used to have apps2SD but uninstalled it when i followed a thread here and set up my phone to save all apps that can, to the SD card.

try "disk usage" app
gonna give this a go

I've not come across an app that doesn't move (yet) ;)
there are loads of apps that don't move to the SD AND work properly, unless i'm doing something wrong.. Switchpro widget, digi clock widget, internal memory widget, most lock screen apps, beautiful widgets, power amp and mixzing, agenda widget. anyway you get what i mean, all these apps i have can't be moved and still work. or so they tell me.

file browser like what? astro only lets you explore your SD, right? will disk usage allow me to look at internal memory and maybe delete or move things?

all these comments are really great, unfortunatly rooting isn't an option.

ok so i've just read up on diskusage and it's a SD card explorer... maybe i'm getting confused by the info you guys are sharing, but i don't know how to plug in my phone and view my apps on my PC (i only see music and pictures when i plug in and search the SD card). and i need an app to view and explore my internal memory.

They're widgets, not apps ;)

Even though I have moved all the apps that I can to the SD card, it does not appear to have freed up any space on the internal storage.

Have 23mb free and have just moved a 2.5mb app to the SD card and it still shows 23mb free.

How this then cheers?
