    It is rumored that Google had a "verbal" agreement with Apple not to bring multi-touch to America yet.

    That seems like the only explanation that makes any sense, especially since they have already stated that Android 2.0 AND the Droid itself are multi-touch capable. Hopefully someone will find some kind of workaround to turn it on.
