That's the problem, they've been "pulling it" for so long they don't remember where their money comes from. (little hint.....CUSTOMERS)

Ahhh, got it, I don't use Facebook but I signed in with my wife's account to vote. It shows up about 2/3 of the way down their page, unless I'm missing something.

I don't want to be the one to piss in everyone's cheerios but, if you think an online poll or petition is going to make Moto see things our way, nope. They don't care. They make so much money off those that just want their phone, they can afford to ignore those that want their phones to do more than they let them do.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have an unlocked bootloader cause that would be great. All i'm saying is Moto isn't going to allow their customers to make mods to their phones if they can lock it out so they are in control of what you get and don't get.

It's a financial business decision. They make more money when they control what you can do with your phone. Does it work? yes and no. it doesn't work in the fact that you have a few thousand people with the know-how to get around their locks and mod the phone.

At the same time it does work. A few thousand people finding ways to unlock their phones is better than them giving you what you want and having every one of their customers non dependent on them for upgrades.

That's just my 2 cents. At the end of the day do we really need Moto to have fun with our phones? Ummm......I'm gonna say no.

They may have pulled the poll, but jees. Motorola | Facebook

Any post they make, look at the comments. Nothing but UNLOCK BOOTLOADER.

That has got to be at least annoying the heck out of them.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm going to have to disagree with this last statement. Right now we can only scratch the surface of customization b/c Moto locks the bootloader and so far it hasn't been cracked. Until we have the keys to truly open up the device, we will never know what the X is fully capable of.

I'm not goingt to piss on you guys, but I am going to piss on Motorola and Verizon. I have an upgrade available, but nothing on Verizons horizon gets me excited. Perhaps the Targa if the rumors are true about it being the next Nexus, and the quadcore, vanilla Android, etc... But for now those are just that, rumors. And that device isn't coming out until Christmas anyway.

I rooted and ROMed 3 of my friends HTC EVO's over the weekend and now I want CM7 even worse than before. It's crazy how different the EVO is from the DX, it was like learning to root and ROM all over again. For one thing I learned that with unlocked devices like them you don't just flash a new ROM, there are also tons of custom kernels to flash as well to really tweak your device out even more. They get to have twice the fun that we do. It really helped me make my mind up playing around with those unrestricted devices.

The DX has been great, not slamming it at all. I've had fun with it and will keep it and continue to tinker with it. But I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of stuff that Moto won't let us do with it. I think it would be THE premier device out there even without dual core and all that other stuff coming out if we had an unlocked bootloader and the devs could really go crazy with it. But it just isn't going to happen. I've come to accept that.

Which is why I put in an order for the LG Optimus G2x last night on T-Mobile. It's a vanilla Android device and they're already working on the CM7 nightlies (was just released here in the US 5 days ago). LG and Samsung seem to be the two OEMs that are most interested in giving the consumer what they want (freedom... Samsung released a statement saying they absolutely would not lock their bootloader unless Google required them to). But I'm not a fan of Samsung devices, they don't get updated for one thing, and they look too much like iPhones for my taste.

And T-Mo is the friendliest Android carrier out there. I know they're going to probably be gobbled up by AT&T (such a shame), but I'll be moving to Canada before that anyhow, so I'll take my G2x up north, unlock it, and use it on one of their carriers. Canada seems to be on the opposite path as we are down here... more and more carriers are popping up instead of less and less.

So I'll continue to check in around here and see what's new for the DX. Like I said I still love this device and wish oh so badly that it were unlocked. If that were the case I'd definately be on it until I moved up north and had to get a GSM device to work on their networks up there. If it ever does get unlocked I'll still be happy because I'm going to keep it as a wi-fi only device anyhow. So here's to hoping that online petition and the facebook thing wake Moto up.

But I'm not holding my breath any longer.

Bbuck002, I agree with you. I never said in that statement the sky was the limit. That would require an unlocked bootloader. All I said was we didn't need moto to have fun with our phones. I know im having fun with mine. For what we can do to it anyway.

When it's a bunch of programmer nerds whining on their internet forums (I use none of those as pejoratives), then you're right, moto doesn't care.

But when it blows up in public and Moto gets the rep as being "that company that won't let you do cool things with your phone"... then maybe they start to care a little.

Not a lot. But a little.
