Some friends on facebook were passing this around and it got me to thinking that it might be useful to see what others have become addicted to over the years. I mean if the same movie shows up on lots of folks' "hit lists" then the odds are the rest of us would like it.

Here's a few of mine, in alphabetical order...and yes, I apologize in advance, there are a couple of rom-coms on here. ;)

Apollo 13
Back to the Future (all)
Big
Contact
Die Hard (1)
E.T.
Finding Forrester
Get Shorty
Good Will Hunting
Groundhog Day
The In-Laws (original)
Indiana Jones (all of them except the short round one)
It's a Wonderful Life
Lord of the Rings (all)
Love, Actually
The Matrix (1)
Miracle on 34th Street
Notting Hill
Pulp Fiction
Searching for Bobby Fisher
Shawshank Redemption
Silverado
Stand By Me
Star Wars 4-6
Terminator (1)
The Whole Nine Yards

So what's yours?

Alien (1 & 2)
King Kong (1933 & 2005)
Jason and the Argonauts
The Matrix

For me the test is this:

The movie comes on TV and I say to myself I'll just watch the beginning because I've seen it loads and don't need to see it again. Next thing, closing credits...

The film has to draw me in so I can't, and don't want to, stop watching.

I'll probably think of more.

LOTR. Told you!

If I watch a movie a lot of times, it's usually not intentional. Like I'll be flipping through the channels when nothing is on and I'll just stop on something on basic cable, just to have something on in the background while I'm doing something else, like reading the paper or checking the forums. Then next thing I know, I've watched the whole movie lol. Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, and Die Hard come to mind. Shawshank Redemption is another one.

Give me a film with a great soundtrack and I can watch it over and over. Extra credit for well choreographed fight scenes.

Kill Bill (mostly vol 1, but I love both).
Brazil
Apocalypse Now
Ran
Harold and Maude (the cult classic anti war comedy love story. Great soundtrack).
The Big Lebowski
Goodfellas
Pulp Fiction
Into the Wild.
Slumdog Millionaire
Fightclub (mostly for the art design and cinematography).
Life is Beautiful
Kick Ass
Transporter (only the first one. For the shirtless fight scenes).

Yes, my list runs the gamut of classy to klassy..... :D

Decade after decade, first answer to this question: Chinatown. No contest. Again and again.

Other Greats:
Rear Window. (Grace Kelly............. 'nuff said)
2001: A Space Oddyssey. Any time it is shown on a real screen, I go. Breathtaking, science fiction way ahead of its time, and for adult attention spans. Keep 'yer Star Wars, all of 'em.
The Shining.
Once Upon a Time In The West.
(various)
Kurosawa / Mifune classics.

Other greats (lower case "g"), second drawer:
(various) Scorsese, Goodfellas comes to mind.
This is Spinal Tap
Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Airplane
(various)
Coen bros, Blood Simple comes to mind.......And as I look at their list, I realize I have much to look forward to.......several I have not seen!

When I saw this thread, I came looking for this post... and here it is. I too love Aliens and have watched it well over sixty times (by now). So, I recognised your username immediately ;)

To continue:
Ghostbusters (the original, I'm old)
Most other James Cameron movies
Serenity (also the firefly series)
The matrix trilogy
Star trek (first contact and insurrection)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Wall-E
Cars
Shrek 1&2
Coraline

The last four (yes, I have kids, but to be honest I'll also watch them alone). There are other films I love, but these are my goto items.

Regards,
Eric.
