Help mp3 to notification

Help!
The phone (PCD) is an HTC Incredible.
I have a 1 to 2 second mp3 file that I would like to drop in the text messaging notification alert window so I could set for a incoming SMS. How can this be done? All I see are ringtones not e-mail or SMS notifications

If it works the same as mine, which being a HTC Hero is pretty likely, you need to put the mp3 in a 'notifications' folder on your sdcard. Then it will appear in the sms tone selection window.

Likewise, you can have folders titled 'ringtones' 'music' and 'alarms' and android will make sure only music appears in the music app and so on.
