Does anyone know if there are multiple suppliers for the evo-3d display (as there was for the original evo) ?

The reason I asked is that I took a look at an evo3d today and its screen seemed significantly more vibrant than the pair I looked last weekend.

The sound on it was also crisper. I suppose it could have something to do with the store lighting not too sure here.

They've quality control issues on this beast, plain and simple.

Combinations of bad screens, bad rear speakers, bad cameras, bad RF sections, light leaks and just all around bad and unable to sleep no matter what.

I think you were seeing the difference between lemony and good components.

Pretty sure that Sharp has a lock on this screen and isn't letting it go - I've yet to hear of them licensing their ASV LCD tech to anyone (and Super Mobile ASV aka Super Mobile AV are part of their ASV series). So far as I last heard, that's jealously guarded.

Quick eyeball against a crappy gamma test and I'm guessing that this is at around 2.6~2.7 (as opposed to about 2.2), and mine's great - so, yeah, a little on the vibrant side.

Oh well; wasn't sure if sharp owned the lcd or the parallex thingy on top. Kind of disappointed at this large of a variance. Then again I felt more comfortable with the phone I played with yesterday (sound was also much better; or seemed better - one thing to consider is the phone was in a different state so perhaps reception or signal type was different or something or other).

There has been a lot of people seeing differences in the screens colors already. I wouldn't be surprised if there were multiple manufacturers making them. I know that mine is a Sharp and it looks, well... sharp lol, and vibrant.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but there's no hard evidence that other manufacturers' screens are in the Evo 3D.

It doesn't make any sense that another manufacturer is the explanation for the bad image quality. Why would HTC go with a manufacturer that has consistently crappy screens? Makes more sense that a given batch from a single manufacturer had problems.

And how do you know you have a Sharp screen? Did you see something labeled as Sharp? Or are you just assuming it's a Sharp because it looks... "sharp?"

Reported problems that I've seen so far look like a very few bad screens, the rest sound more like bad control for the screen.

I've seen many of the reported problems in real life on other systems attributable to nothing more than bad ribbon connectors, for example.

Well only time will tell... I know there is already quite a thread going on about it on XDA where half of everyone is talking about how either their phone, or a display model, has more of a cream white tint to it instead of the vivid bright white. If there is that much variance in a single manufacturers screens I'd be pretty shocked.

    Me too.

    Half of everyone, you say?

They certainly must have the worst luck.
