It's a Samsung thing. It's actually against Google recommendation. Google doesn't approve of it for now.

Yeah Cyanogen wanted to do it and google threatened to block devices using cyanogen from Play Store. Thats the power they have lol. Even with Samsung, unless you root and use a custom app, the choice of compatable apps is pathetic.

It's actually against Search engines suggestions. Search engines doesn't accept of it from now on.

Google still made Sammy cripple it.
I found I couldn't use it for anything that would actually be useful to me (ie play store apps).
IMO halo is/will be a much better implementation of "multiwindow"

Actually, it would depend on the app developer. More and more apps are getting updated with "support for Samsung S Pen and MultiWindow" nowadays.

Given that Paranoid Android is putting all that work into multiwindow, it sounds like they believe that native Android is not about to implement multiwindow.
It also sounds like Google has something against multiwindow.

They're protecting their brand.
It can put apps in a lot of situations they may not have been designed for, and Google doesn't want people down rating apps for situations the app devs didn't intend it being used in.
Look at a Googler response(Dianne hackborne) when cyanogenmod tried to introduce this way back in cm9

Yea they're called Q Slide apps, every LG phone on JB has it now. It's really useful, particularly the calculator app.

Aren't the QSlide more similar to the floating windows of the previous generation of Galaxy Tabs as compared to the Samsung MultiWindow interface?

Well, Samsung got around that issue by not allowing almost all play store apps to be used for multi window.
that crippled the functionality, so their implementation isn't worth it for me.
If I could use all play apps and not rate, that's fine

Yeah id only want it if it was the same as using rooted multi window. Samsungs allowed apps are pretty much useless and just a gimmick

I'd opine that FX file browser and MX Player Pro are notable exceptions.
And, somehow, I was able to write a review of MX Player Pro.
