I think the iphone had a music app where I could import and play my spotify music. Since I am new to android is there such a music app that does this?

    Thanks

    What do you mean?
If after downloading music from Spotify, it appears on your sd, then any music app like Google music should be able to play it.
If the music only stays in Spotify, then they're trying to make sure you don't copy and share the music.

Okay I'm officially confused :( I went from into spotify settings and directed the music data to be stored on the external sd card.

Not sure how to access this music data and see whether it's there and access via various music players.

    Hope someone can help.

I just want to play the music with a different player e.g poweramp etc

Haven't had Spotify for some time now but i believe they don't let you access the music outside the app so that you can't share it. Maybe in iPhone they do allow you because iPhone blocks sharing music?
Why do you want to use a different app

Yup just checked online, and Spotify encrypts the music so you can't use it outside the app..
