Since the Droid comes out Friday and I'm sure everyone wants to be all set to play with their new toy, I figured it'd might be a good idea to compile a list of people's favorite apps (preferably with a short description of what they do). Just a thing to think about to make everyone who is just entering the android world (raises hand) a bit easier. So what apps can you not live without?
http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/11531-must-have-apps-new-post.html To me the only MUST HAVE/Can't live without are: Advanced Task Killer Free eBuddy AK Notepad Layar Although the music player in the hero should suck so I guess you will need another one for that =) And prop something for a cooler homescreen like ahome/pandahome or what they are called XD
Check out this list - Google Maps - 20 Android Apps: Our Favorites - Tom's Guide On my own list in a Word document that look interesting or necessary: Flyscreen - Lock screen customization Locale - Location Based settings Shopsavvy, Barcode Scanner, CompareEverywhere (will try them all out) MobileDefense (find your lost phone, remote wipe) Ringdroid (make your own ringtones from songs) Pandora (internet radio) Shazam (listens to songs and finds name and artist) SMS Popup (popup notifications for SMS) Facebook Pure Grid (calendar widget that looks like HTC's widget) Gasbot (find the cheapest gas) GPS OnOff (on/off switch for GPS) WiFi OnOff (on/off switch for WiFi)
Thanks, i have a blackberry storm on verizon and dying find a complete device. deciding between droid and htc imagio with windows 6.5.
every time i try to go to that site, safari just sits there and it doesn't load a page.... anyone else having problems?
yeah and i have typical internet explorer 8. how are we supposed to research app before you invest in phone. Phones looks and sounds good and i know they will market new generations of the phones in future just like iphone but give us a chance, huh!
I believe cyrket.com is for accessing from an Android OS phone, rather than a CPU or other mobile browser.
I agree with Pandora and Shazam. I am comming from a WM device and have come to rely on apps like WmWiFi Router and PDAnet. I would also like to see a nice media player app with more media formate support an a better UI as well as a new browser that utilizes the pinch to zoom part of multiple touch.
The first app you should download is the barcode reader. Then on many sites, there will be a bar code for the app. Take a picture of it and it will take you right there on your phone.
Locale looks really useful...the Tom's Guide link posted above is a really excellent list. Don't miss it.
Googling, the bar code scanners I find are more about shopping, like these, that getting new apps on the phone Barcode Scanner v3.0 Application for Android | Shopping Google Android now has a barcode scanner But I did find this one, which sounds closer to the description: Android Phones Get 2D Bar Code Reader
Does anybody know the best home screen replacement app that works with Android 2.0 on the Moto Droid? I've seen a lot of talk of such apps but nothing on what is currently compatible with 2.0. This one seems nice and it's compatible with 2.0.... yippee..... http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-nd-android-pandahome-jtjm.aspx Thanks, Mr.Shneeblie
I just wanted to say that your links here are greatly appreciated by all and... well... Id let you have me if you wanted. (paraphrasing a tv show) I have been searching endlessly for that exact list for nearly a week now, and never turned it up. Thank you very much!
