When you got your phone did you get it with 1.6 or 1.5?

You will need to use the GOLD card method.

This method is a pain in the rear and I had to have a friend do this for me. For some reason i could not figure it out.

How To: Root Your MyTouch 3G / Magic (GoldCard Method) | The Unlockr

Im not the best person here for a walk through however have no problem helping where i can. :p

The one touch method used had upgraded 1.5 to 1.6 and is now WAY outdated since the phones now come with 1.6 ONLY... you will need to give it 1.5 then back to 1.6 then can root.

Since your mt3g came with 1.6 pre installed you will have to follow what dasudevil said.

Trust me this idea will not work. You have to use the gold card. I have tried the one touch root and WILL NEVER work if you never upgraded to 1.6.

Let me get this clear. You had 1.5 and you upgraded to 1.6 through OTA? If that is the case then the method should work without gold card

Check the website. READ, READ, READ, and when you think you got it then your ready to READ again!!!!

This is not a simple process. Devote at least 2-5 hours for this process. Its VERY LONG. If you mess up you start to look like me in other posts.

The unlocker has every file needed however may need to take some time due to file overload. (sometimes the servers are full)

Trust me TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not skip one process, Do NOT RUSH, And you MUST READ!

This is the only way the 1-click method would work. If it does not you have no other choices

Repeat the process from step1. Download all the files fresh from unlockr.
