    All,

So I actually like predictive text! That statement is enough to get me shunned as my first post to this forum, but it could never be more true.

The problem is about every 2 days it is automatically turning itself off. I know that this can not be an accident, because there is no way to turn off the feature with the keyboard up(unlike the iPhone for example).

Searching for this issue is really tough. If you use the search words anywhere for 'android' and 'predictive text', you will get literally hundreds of results on how to turn this feature off. For my phone, that is as simple as waiting a day or two.

Has anyone else had this problem with this phone or android in general?

Thank you so much for your time!

I have had my S7 for almost 2 weeks now and predictive text has never turned itself off (I like predictive text too!). If it was me I would backup everything and go for a reset.

I want to go ahead and bump this. I have had time to try out other keyboards. While no other keyboards have had this issue, I still really like the default Samsung keyboard. I am still wondering if anyone is having this issue. It still seems to be turning off my predictive text every other day or so. It is just very annoying to have to keep going back in to change it all the time.

I still would like to know my questions above if anyone has any ideas. Like, is there a shortcut to turn off predictive text within the keyboard that I could be accidentally hitting? Is it turning off with every update? Please let me know.

Thank you so much for your time!

The say that a picture tells 1000 words. Please see my attached screenshots. When it it turned on, all is fine and dandy. When it turns off, it also turns off my auto replace, auto spacing, and it sets my keyboard swipe to 'none'. This really kind of sucks, but I love this keyboard when it is working properly.

Thank you so much for your time!

In application manager try deleting the keyboard/apps cache and retry. This will probably wipe any predicted words that it might have already stored.

Normally, when this has happened to me and friends/family in the past, it's because Optical Reader is turned on. However, the Predictive Text option completely disappears in Settings, so this may not be your issue. However, it still might be worth checking out. Samsung is aware of this glitch, but go to Settings --> Accessibility --> (near the bottom) Optical Reader.

Thank you so much for your reply. Please see attached. I cannot seem to find any entry for the keyboard in the application manager. There is nothing "Samsung Keyboard" nor just "Keyboard". Is there something else that I should be looking for to accomplish this?

Thank you so much for your time!

It has been happening to me too. Getting beyond a joke. This is the only forum I've found for this issue. S7 is coming up with a few problems.

I know this isn't really a fix, but is there any reason why you guys won't just use a third party keyboard? Trusted ones are Swype (that app is even older than Android commercial release. It was first tested on Nokias), and Swiftkey (Microsoft now owns this app).

Might give it a go. I'm used to just leaving my phone. Still have a pic of my face close up as my wallpaper because I can't be bothered changing it. Yet I'll join a forum to find out why my predictive text is switching off. Go figure....

    Thanks

Meh third party keyboards are better. Having your dictionaries and custom words in the cloud and syncing across devices make things a lot easier. Swiftkey even syncs to iOS devices if you have some. I forgot to add Google keyboard. Of course it's trusted to run on Android. Lol.

I love my phone but it is *so* buggy! I have been having the exact same issue as you describe (every few days I need to delete and re-do the dictionary and re turn on my keyboard settings that have somehow shut themselves off) plus it suggests the most ridiculous of autocorrects, the top 3 options it suggests on anything that I type are always misspellings or words that do not even exist. I want to shut off the "learn words" setting so it will learn a word only when I say to but I can't seem to find out how to do that (if you even can.) I wonder if you ever came up with a solution or if you had luck with a different keyboard.

Just use a different keyboard app - it sounds like the one that came pre-installed doesn't work for you. You never have to put up with what the manufacturer installed just because that's what comes with it, and 3rd party apps are often better (and can move with you when you change phone, with manufacturer apps don't unless you stick with the same manufacturer).

Thank you so much for answering. Do you have an opinion on which third party apps are better or best?

PS I see other people have mentioned some but I wondered what your opinion was (apparently I suddenly feel like I know and trust you )

I've used both SwiftKey and GBoard extensively. Both work well.
