I have a cache cleaner app, i have also cleared cache in the root menu. very few apps

for example i hit the camera icon, and its so sluggish to open. Then i take a photo and hit the little gallery icon to view it, and its sluggish to open.

    stuff like that.

Guessing a full restore is next, which i absolutely hate doing :(

I am afraid that certain Lollipop releases almost require a Factory Data Reset as a matter of course.

Which model of hone and firmware are you on, as per #1.2 and #1.8 of 40 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

You have the Verizon, non Samsung, version of Lollipop. See #1.6 of the previous Dummies Guide. This is the #1 firmware that cries out for a Factory Data Reset as has been shown in numerous posts in threads across the web. See post #2 of the Dummies Guide. :(
