my tab shut down after default factory mode came on

my galaxy tab shut down after default factory mode showed on the screen. it wont charge....may have gotten water in it

That would be my guess. And, since the battery was still connected and the tab was running (even when it's off, certain things keep running), the shorts caused by the water burned things in the tab out. You could try to get a repair estimate from the manufacturer, but if they're honest they'll probably offer you a new tab for less than the price of a repair. (If they're dishonest, they'll string you along, repairing this, then repairing that [and charging you each time] until you've spent more than the price of a new one.)

Some manufacturers, knowing how bad water damage usually gets after a week or so, won't even give you an estimate - they'll just tell you that the device has to be replaced, and give you a price.
