I have the Google Developers Conference Edition of the T-Mobile MyTouch and it's running so slowly. Home screen and apps take forever to load. Didn't used to be this way... Seems like it has deteriorated over time. My Task Killing (Advanced Task Killer) App says I have only 16-18 Mb of memory available.

I have cleared dozens of Megabytes of caches, deleted a ton of apps, cleaned up my MicroSd card, deleted all my sms messages, and even switched to a tiny easy to load home background image all to no avail!

If anyone has any suggestions other than factory reset (last resort) I am desperate. Any help much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Well not to be a drag but you've already been deleting apps so you might as well have done the factory reset. If your phone is lagging as bad as you're claiming then you would've saved some time by doing that. Other than that I'm sorry you're having these problems.

HOW have you been resetting it? Turning it off and on, taking the battery out, or actually going into the settings and doing a full factory reset?

Turning it off and on by holding the power button and selecting power off has been working as a short term fix (6-8 hours before it becomes unusable again).

Best thing to do at this point is to do a factory reset and pretty much start the phone from scratch.

    Menu>Settings>SD Card & Phone Storage>Factory Data Reset

That will take the phone back to the settings it originally came with. You will have to re-download everything, but at this point I think it is your best option.

I would just go ahead and get it done, then you shouldn't have problems and you could enjoy your phone again..

It's a sad day... I broke down and factory reset my phone. Hopefully that fixes everything.

Try not using any task killer apps this time around to see what happens.

With that being said, rooting and installing a custom ROM is the best way to speed up your phone IMO.

From what I've read, the general consensus is that task killers usually do more harm than good for your phone's responsiveness and battery life. Sure there might sometimes be a terribly written app that needs killing, but for the most part Android does a good job with task management.

If you're concerned about a bad app using up all your CPU, this might be a better option (I haven't tried it yet, though):

keep an eye open with your internal phone storage. (under settings/sdcard and phone storage) The higher the number the better your phone will run. Im almost 100mb's higher then a few days ago and to me my phone is 10x better.

Heck at this point, I would just say root and rom. Since I did mine, my phone has run so much better. Either that or a new phone, be it return for a new one, or a straight out new one.

Only other thing I can think of is try askin some of the guys on xDA for any advice as well.

One other thing.....how much memory is your phone showing internally when you have all your apps installed?
