I should start by saying this is about a Droid and a LG Optimus V.

I have a few questions about the ever wonderful root.

I have heard many wonderful things about this magic, and like all things there are bad things that begin to surface upon a simple google search.

When the Droid first came I out I got one. At that time I had not heard of rooting. Later a friend of mine got himself a Droid. With his magical powers he summoned root to his device.

    It was sweeet!

This joker was doing flips and shit and playing Mario64 with a wiimote.

Well, about 2 months ago he starts to have problems.

Problem 1) His power button stops working. Not root related....as far as one would think.

Problem 2) The only way he can navigate his phone is by holding one finger on the screen and using the D-Pad.

Problem 3) He cannot send text messages or receive calls; but, he can make calls.

Now with this happening I am starting to second guess rooting.

I know it's on a completely different device, but if it can happen to that one what is stopping it from happening to mine?

Now I'm not sure what all he did to it, but I am confident in telling you he know what he is doing. All I am asking is what is the possibility of something like this happening to me. I also had another query but alas I forgot...will edit when I remember.

There is a slim possibility that something he did after rooting caused the issues he is having. However, most likely answer is that your friend is very hard on the hardware, and as a result is begining to have hardware issues. Only way to know for sure is to reload the stock software (ROM) on his Droid and see if the problems persist (hardware issue) or go away (software issue).

Rooting is simply the means to gaining root or administrator permissions to do what you want with the files, including what would normally be hidden or read-only files. What you do after could cause problems.

When you say. "What you do after...". What would that entail?

Accidentally deleting a system file,or a system app.,or being overclocked too high and letting the battery and the rest of the system get way to hot to many times. Rooting itself will not cause damage to your phone. Its only the mistakes that you make. If rooting, changing your Kernel,or ROM,or changing your boot animation or theme would do damage to your phone. No one would be doing it.

And that is why no one does crack or heroin, because it might do damage to you.

I don't get it. But I've all ways been a little dense that way.
