N1: 450% Faster

450% is a huge improvement, I can't imagine that's correct. All sorts of other sites have picked up on that piece of info and have been running with it, I'm hoping that when 2.2 finally drops and people see that it's not blazing fast doing everything they won't be disappointed.

Well you are right on the fact that everyone is running with this 'scoop' which is actually just based on one or 2 screenshots. But then again the internet has never been known for checking it's sources
But it's still pretty plausible. Perhaps some results will vary but I'm guessing the new compiler will be a huge speed boost either way.

Also remember that Linpack is just a synthetic benchmark tool...rarely do benchmark results translate into real world performance, though obviously, it does give insight that things will perform better across the board.
