I restored my NC back to out of the box v1.0.1. CM7 doesnt seem to load properly from the SD card, might have something to do with the installer image..not sure. I was hoping to DL the 1.3 update and plug the NC into USB on computer and load it internally, but I cant access the drives for some reason......next thought was to go to BN store and allow the auto update which is already 1.7.

    1. What has happened in all the NC updates since 1.3?

    2. I want to verify that I can still use CM7 from an SD card. My understnding is that since CM7 runs from SD card, it doesnt matter what NC version I have.

    3. I also want to know if there is a Manual Nooter for the NC 1.7 update

You should have a bootable sdcard, a cheap 1 or 2 gb card you use for things like this or to fix a failed boot.

    1.7? That's for the original Nook (Nook1).

CM7 can replace the stock rom or run off a sdcard. Running off the sdcard is slower, more difficult (as you found out), harder to update and much more fragile (since the sdcard can fail).

Unless you're a reader or are worried about warranty, I see no reason to put a rom on the sdcard.

I need to retain the e-reader function of the Nook Color.

There is a Nook reader in Market with most of the functionality, including all your paid books. :D

You can run anything you want off the sdcard since it uses just the sdcard, irregardless of the stock B&N version.

The market nook reader would not download on my rooted stock 1.2 NC. I wanted it as my books will not download with 1.2 installed (internal error BS0003).

Well after MANY frustrating hours i finally have a bootable sd card with cm7. Apparently ROM manager does not function with roms on sd cards. Not a big deal i guess. The dunctionality of cm7.0.3 (i used the stable encore) imo is actually not bad and that much different than when i had it installed internally.

I am still at the original bn stock rom 1.0.1. The drives would not allow access for me to load update 1.3. They show up in xp but i cannot access them. I cant install adb because i have a 32 and not 64 system. My only choice would be to fo to bn store and take 1.7 and maybe not be able to manual nooter or try to load 1.3 thru cwm so i can root the stock rom. Your thoughts? My kid likes having market so i need to have it rooted and daddy gets the cm7 card.....hee hee

Ummm.... there is no 1.7... only 1.3. :D

Adb works just fine with 32 or 64 bit systems. Most common problem is not adding it to the windows path so you can type adb commands in any command window w/o adding the path to the adb file. If you need adb to do an install, you need a different guide IMO. :D

Like I've said before, sdcard installs are a pain to install and a pain to update. Unless you really need the couple of features provided by the stock reader (like read-to-me books), you can still do that with CM7 on the Nook (instead of the sdcard).

In order to get USB mode you have to turn it on from your NC.

HA! Not sure to interpret the light bulb, but I like it!

I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your help that you have provided. I am now fully UN-ROOTED with CM7 running from an SD card.

I had a scary moment yesterday when I thought everything was stock on my NC and went to a BN store to inquire why it wasn't updating from the 1.0.1 BN ROM that I flashed. Thinking I was a step ahead of them, they "busted" me and said they could tell it had been rooted. Well, duh! The reason it wouldn't ever update (I know this now, but not at the time) is because when I flashed V 1.0.1 I was not able to appropriately format/clean everything I needed to such as "data" in CWM. I kept getting an error but I was able to proceed with the flash. Turns out it is because I was using CWM 3.0.2.8. After my trip to BN I realized that although it appeared everything was ok with the NC, I was unable to DL any books and/or play the games that my daughter had previously installed. Something leftover in the "data" was causing an issue.

All is better now. I used CWM 3.2.0.1 and viola, all is good and everything got wiped and formatted as it was supposed to. The flash of 1.0.1 and removal of CWM (all in one ZIP file) instantly gave me the OTA update to 1.2 and my books and games are back.

NOW I AM CERTAIN THAT BN CANNOT TELL IT HAS BEEN ROOTED. Anyway, I have no need to go back there anyway since I got it working again.

I got so deep into trying to make things work I was using different combos of CWM with ROMS, getting errors during flashing, not wiping as I should, not thinking clearly from lack of sleep....etc.

As I reflect back on the entire experience, I think I will be able to help others that make the same mistakes as I have. It has been a learning experience and I can say that I now understand why some of the things are worded the way they. It is not luck, it is following precise instructions.

What is the difference in the stable CM7 ROMS and others like supersonic, RC1? Perhaps I need to post that question in a different thread

I suspect you're not the first to show up with a rooted NC. :D

Glad you got it figured out. Yes, CWM 3.2.0.1 is required before you can format data on a new NC.

I could do it now in about 10 minutes now that i know to use 3.2.0.1 cwm and flash the recovery zip for nc 1.0.1. Its prety sweet to flash the stock nc rom and remove cwm.

Worst case your warranty is void.
