ok I have Froyo 2.2 DK 28 on my epic...I am looking for a ROM that is close to Froyo (nothing too crazy) so I can flash a gingerbread theme. I tried truly epic and lost swipe which i NEEEED so I went back to just plain ole Froyo. Any suggestions for a ROM that still has swipe that I can use without having to switch over to EXT4. Thanks a ton.

i believe there are only a few 2.2 roms that still offer non-ext4 versions.... Epic Experience is one, and i believe it is not too crazy, lol. other than that, there are a maybe a couple others that offer rfs, or dual support for either ext4 or rfs.... take a look here and see what strikes you:

    Epic 4G Android Development - xda-developers

as for Swype, most roms have that included, and if they don't you can probably track down a download to flash or install Swype to whatever rom you're using.

Midnight rom is the way to go.

Quantum Rom is pretty much tame, yet a good one. i also like supernova. I've flashed them all.

oh and to switch to swype just hold down in the text portion and all input methods appear.

The Swype Beta has opened back up. You can go ahead and register at Swype | Text Input for Screens and download the latest version of it. They have also offered an English/Spanish version which cuts down the file size from 10 Mb to 2.5 Mb.

Not sure if this would work on the Epic or not...but the price is right.

EDIT: Also, the SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 appears to be an impressive one to try out, which removes Carrier IQ.

I've tried all the ROMS, and the absolute best one hands down is the new Syndicate Frozen ROM, but it's EB13... which to me is much more stable than DK28.

I am looking for a ROM suggestion as well. All I want is something that will get rid of all the Sprint bloatware. I don't need anything crazy or fancy...I just want that Sprint stuff off my phone.

Running 2.2.1 currently, if that matters.

    TIA!

You can remove the bloatware without flashing a new ROM (if you don't want to). :)

Easiest way is to use Root Explorer and delete the bloatware from /system/app. Just be careful as you can accidentally delete files that you NEED for things to work properly.

I was told I'd need to flash a ROM to do that. Thank you!

ps - is there a list somewhere of what Sprint ware NOT to remove? :p

I have been told it would be easier to flash a ROM than try to uninstall all those things. This one has been recommended [ROM] AhmgskMod TrulyEpic V2.06.12.10 [Stable] [DK28] [MMS Fixed] - xda-developers so now all I have to do is find instructions written in English (I have no idea WTF anything in step 8 means) so I can figure this out.

According to what I have read I need to do steps 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11. I am already rooted so I can skip several. But that step 8...wow.... Why am I hearing Samuel L Jackson shouting, "English mother effer...do you speak it?!?" when I read that?

Which version of android are you currently on (Froyo 2.2.1 EB13 or one of the leaks)? The one you linked is "old".

Yes, it's similar assuming you are rooted with CWM3. I think you are on CWM2 though.

Easy enough to change but I'm out and can't get you links at the moment. Go ahead and download the .zip file for the ROM and put it on the sdcard.

If you can wait a few hours I'll walk you through it if no one else replies.

First thing, verify that you are currently running Froyo build EB13 on your Epic. Verify that the ROM that you want to use is an EB13 build and is EXT4 capable.

Download the ROM that you want. Keep it in the .zip format and place it on your SD card.
Download the Default Stock Dual FS kernel For EB13 and keep in the .zip format and place it on your SD card.

Download THIS and leave it on your windows computer. Reference this thread if wanted....

Per the directions on XDA (with some added commentary):
    1. Unzip the file from directly above to your desktop.
    2. Go into your phone and Go to settings->Applications->Development and turn on USB Debugging.
    3. Now double click run.bat in the folder you unzipped. (If you are on linux ./run.sh from the folder)
    4. Wait for everything to happen.
    5. Use the THREE BUTTON METHOD to get to CWM3.
    6. Wait for the conversion operation to finish.
    7. DO NOT REBOOT!!!!
    8. IF YOU ARE ON AN ODEXED ROM (DEFAULT OTA) THEN YOU NEED TO REFLASH A ROM AFTER THE CONVERSION!!!!!!! ODEXED ROMS DO NOT GET RESTORED PROPERLY!
    9. Flash the Default Stock Dual FS kernel For EB13: http://efragtv.com/android/EB13-DUALFS-KERNEL.zip ***You should already have this saved to your SD Card if you followed the directions above***
    10. Enjoy CWM 3.0.0.5/6

In completely untested and unconfirmed theory, step 7 says that you cannot reboot. I believe this to mean that your phone will not properly load until the steps are completed.

I would STRONGLY advise making a nandroid backup first (prior to doing any of this). Additionally, it is important that you boot into recovery using the 3 Button method (instead of ROM Manager or Quick Boot). Additionally, don't forget to wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache (found under advanced) three times each prior to flashing a ROM.

Volume Keys scroll up and down in Recovery. Camera Key is your enter button.
