I am considering going to the Eris from my BB Pearl. My main concerns are standalone synch with Outlook and battery life. I have four POP3 accounts, do very little texting, and occasional web browsing. Does the Eris handle outlook functions as well as BB? I like the form of the Eris, I know I will eventually have to give up my Pearl, but want to make sure this is the phone to make the jump with.

    thanks,
    Roger

I have the Moto Droid, but I believe the Eris is the same in this respect. The Motorola Droid will not sync to Outlook. It does POP3, IMAP and Exchange (with Push). It also can sync to your GMail account.

There is no way to sync directly with Outlook.

in order to synce with outlook you need the htc sync software which is availible on the htc homepage

I have literally had 10 BlackBerrys in 5 years - I assure you it will be a dream in comparison - especially coming from a Pearl - the typing is identical. If GMAIL is your main email, the sync is superior to the BIS - the BIS never deletes anything on my regular email. I use a Tour for work (what they give me) and have the eris as my personal. I have 4 other email addresses, POP3, which I have forwarded directly to my GMAIL so I now have sync on all 5 and only use the resource of 1 mailbox. The only thing I have yet to figure out is Yahoo's YMAIL. I wish I never set that up.

Applications - The BlackBerry App World is the worst of any of the offerings....its slow, laggy, crashes and hard to find anything - plus the most of the good apps are not always free. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I have tried many touch screen devices, this and the iPhone are the only 2 that I have ever liked.
