I finally figured out how to root my Epic after some work. Now I am trying to install CyanogenMod on it but I not having any luck.

I have ROM Manager and flashed clockwordmod recovery. Then when I reboot into recovery, I don't have an option to install zip from sd card. I am lost. I am a complete newb when it comes to this stuff. So when helping please explain everything fully. Thank you for any help.

Get rid of ROM manager and boot into recovery manually (power phone off, press and hold volume down key and camera key and power key).

Is the alpha RFS or Ext4 (I can't remember)?

It actually supports both rfs and ext4. If you use rom manager to put cwm on you will have to use it to boot into recovery to use it. I would personally stay away for the time being until the epic gets official support from the devs which should be soon as it does get buggy. If you are in cwm and not stock recovery you screen should have either green letters (cwm 2.5) or orange (3. 0.5/6). From there you should wipe data, cache and dalvik 3x each and then find the apply zip from card line. From there you should be able to find the rom. Click on it and install. Cm is nice but it does have some bugs since in only alpha stage. I would suggest using alpha 1 to start as it has less bugs then alpha 3. I would also suggest reading up on it some so you know what to look for if something does creep up on you.

Thanks for the advice. My current issue is that when I go to reboot in recovery mode, it reboots in the Android one, not the CWM recovery mode.

How are you trying, rom manager or the 3 finger mash? The 3 finger mash will get you into a recovery no matter what, just hold volume down, camera then power all at the same time. If you have blue lettering than that is stock recovery and wont work. One of the two should get you there if rom manager did install it for you. I personally would ditch rom manager and use one of the ones in the wip thread. Rom manager has some nice things but it is not for the epic, yet.

I tried both methods and both just get me to the stock recovery. I will check out that thread and download.
EDIT: Checked the thread and not sure what you mean by other ones to try out?

Oh, one click roots. One will keep you stock file system(rfs) and the other is ext4(what everything will be after 2.2) most roms are either ext4 compatible or ext4 only. But being cm is either or dont matter but if you load any other roms then you should follow what they suggest then.

Use the one click in the WIP sticky at the top of the forum. Follow the directions in that thread to flash the ROM.

Get rid of ROM Manager. It doesn't work right on the Epic.

If you still can't get it and want to drive a few hours south I'll help you get it loaded.

Update: I was told to download QuickBoot and this solved my problems immediately. It allowed me to boot into the right recovery and install my Roms. I am now running Bosnai. Any suggestions for good roms? I still have a ton to learn.

Totally agree. His work has always been good but this one is his best yet. Highly recommend it. Glad you got it figured out btw:)
