    Hello there
Ok so this is the deal. I really
    rarely ever do anything to
    computer/phone savy. I have
an old evo 4g from sprint. It is
not rooted and I can only use
it through wifi snce i do not
    have sprint anymore. It says
    android version 2.3.5
    baseband 2.15.00.12.19
    kernel 2.6.35.10-g94d0005
    htc kernel@and18-2 #1.... All
I want to do with it is watch
movies on my tv through this
    hdmi cable i bought. I
    understand now that without
    anything it will only play
    youtube and the gallery.
    Anyways can you please help
me out in anyway possible to
    get it to work. Remember
though i have no idea how to
root or whatever either so Im
kinda lost in the sauce lol. Most of the threads about it are from around 2010.
PLease get back to me on
what I can do. I would greatly
    appreciate it. Thanks
    Brandon.

    Hey Brandon! Welcome to AF:)
Unfortunately, you have to be rooted to use the HDMI mirroring as most, if not all custom rom/kernels allow this but not stock.
So, with that being said, we can walk you thru the steps to root along with this guide:
    http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

If you are interested, just let us know, and read thru it a couple times, and if you are not familiar with any part of it, let us know and we can help.

yeah like mikey said you will need to be rooted. there used to be a mirroring app by teamwin, but when gingerbread came around the support for it went away. so now the only way to truly mirror what is on your phone is to root it. so use the guide that mikey linked you to and you should be good to go.
