Before any one chimes in and says try the search feature... I did!!! thats why im posting this because i got everything but Build Number info!

I was having an issue with my Droid's keyboard lights not coming on and the touch keys at the bottom of the screen lighting up intermittently. I took it to the verizon store and they couldnt figure it out, so they had a replacement sent to me. While waiting on my 3rd droid to come in (my first one had the random power off issue) I decided to take my Mirror screen protector off to get the phone ready to ship, plus even though i liked the look it made it difficult to see in direct sun light. Well after taking the screen protector off it started working with out flaw again. and so that you dont think im some idiot i did have the sense to notch the upper right corner of the screen protector out so the sensor was not covered.

My question is should i send my droid back with the build # of 39/09 for the new droid with the build # of 51/09. does the build # make that much of a difference in the quality of the phone? I have spent a lot of time customizing the appearance of my droid and dont want to start over if there is no need. I do understand that all my apps will still be there but I will have to reconfigure everything on my home screens again. I like to switch between GDE, Home ++, and PandaHome, but i do primarily use GDE. Thanks in advance for the help.

By the way I am by no means an android or a droid expert, but compared to the techs at the Verizon store in Dublin, GA I am a Droid and android GOD!!! When they took a look at my home screens the all ood and awed and said how did you get more than 3 screens, and how did you get your screen to rotate like that (GDE Cube). These same techs all had Droids of their own. The also wanted to know how i got my icons to be different than default. So i held an impromptu Droid 101 class for them and introduced the to the "Android Market", and GDE, Home++, bettercut, PDANet, and many other miracle apps. I for once didnt feel like the noob, because that is definately how i feel when reading through this forum. I am soaking up yall's knowledge like a sponge and learning a lot.

    Thanks for that as well,

    Steve

It went both ways - some said the eraly 40s had worse cameras but the late 30s had other issues.

My guess is that by the 51st week (next to last week of the year) a few issues should have been ironed out - plus, also look at it this way - your new one is likely to be a virgin phone, not opened by anyone for display or demo or anything.

The best bet to find this answer would actually be at the Motorola forums, as opposed to here. But my personal advice is YES!

Exchange...never trust hardware that isn't consistent, and don't assume that things will keep working.

Weird. The Build Number listed in my "ABOUT PHONE" says ESD56. What's THAT mean?

That is the Android Kernel build, I believe. The one we're talking about is the actual hardware Build number, located underneath the battery on the phone itself.

Ah. Thanks. 40/09 here. No problems with the phone whatsoever. Knock wood.

I agree, I would go with the 51/09 simply because it is newer and probably has some of the minor production bugs fixed.

Just wanted to see if there were any more thoughts on this before I have to send it back.

Well I decided to keep the new phone, but now there is a problem with the apps that I had currently downloaded from the android market. When I swapped phones over it transfered everything but my applications. It is supposed to transfer all apps not only just the ones that you purchased, but all of your apps that the market showed that you downloaded. I called tech support and the gentleman that i spoke with said that this is a known issue and that on the 22 of this month (January) there is going to be another software push that will resolve this issue. I'm hoping that this will be android 2.1 and it will resolve many issues and that i can get it on the first wave this time!!!

Like they really make that many changes week to week. You could drive yourself crazy with stuff like this. Now, if it were the case with the Storm 2 whereby some are manufactured in Canada, some in Mexico and others in Hungary, I could understand the issue.

Did you get this from a forum or from a build log at Motorola? If it's the former, it's just hearsay. There's likely just as many people with 39/09 or earlier phones that are happy as heck compared to 40/09 or later. Again, it matters more about 'where' it's built rather than when. Unless...of course...you can show us a build change log from Motorola.
