ive tried the htc bootloader unlock from htcdev and the newbies guide on here. with both i have got stuck. i think it is step three in the newbies guide. where you need to enter command promps. cd C:\sdk-tools and it always tells me the system can not find the path specified.

Hmm have you extracted the mini sdk to the c: drive? From the sound of the error it seems the location doesn't exist.

Did you actually extract the zip to the location or did you just put the zip in that location? Or did you extract it somewhere else?

It honestly doesn't matter where you extract it to but you have to run the commands from the location that you extract it to... It's a little hard to explain... Hmm. Maybe I could help you over team viewer to check the location and help you extract it to the location the guide suggests?

ok got past that this is the message i have nowC:\sdk-tools> \fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
< waiting for device > and its not going any farther, do i have to do something specific to get the phone to react?

The only reasons I know for that message are either improper drivers, USB debugging not enabled in phone settings, interfering software such as HTC sync, iTunes, etc... Windows 8.

mope that wasnt it. what can i do with htc sync and what drivers would i need and how to get them

HTC Sync puts the correct drivers on your PC. If you go into the software removal utility (uninstall programs), you should see HTC Sync and the HTC drivers listed separately. Remove HTC Sync, but don't uninstall the drivers.

Let us know how it goes.
