Hey guys, android noob here, just converted to the Vibrant from blackberry not long ago.

I was gonna try and go the custom ROM route, but i've hit a speed bump. i'm rooted and i installed ROM manager, but i cannot get it to make a backup. when i boot into recovery mode the only options available are these:

    -reboot system now
    -reinstall packages
    -delete all user data
    -delete cache data
    -format internal sd card

i read somewhere to keep trying "reinstall packages" and that would do it, but every time i do i get this:

    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted.

i've tried older versions of CWM with no luck and searched for 2 hours for an answer. i'm lost. i'm not going to flash a ROM until i get a proper backup made.

    any insights?

    thanks!

Hm, same problem...cannot backup in recovery, no option to do so...

I looked at the XDA linked, and ran 3e_recovery_install batch file, and it fails when it gets to gettign Temp Root, the phone IS rooted. I did have it in USB debugging...ideas?

Ok, so I have followed all 18 pages on the XDA thread you mentioned...does this look right to follow?

    1. get superoneclick root application - I am already rooted, so that's done
    2. plug phone into computer then open superoneclick application
    3. click on shell root (i used psneuter method) in the application and let
    it do its thing
    4. Once you get a message that you have shell root, download the 3e
recovery from OP and unzip to desktop.
    5. run the .BAT file in the unzipped folder.
    6. go through the steps and choose to restart when done

I will try again today, but it looks like exactly what I was doing...there has to be something minor I am missing...I don't need ADB installed or anything right?

I will give it more shots later on...we shall see!

I had to disable the virus scanner on my PC to get TempRoot.exe to succeed.

grazamataz, after running that batch script, how did you get Nandroid to appear at recovery boot? What do you mean by 'keep trying "reinstall packages"'? I still get the same old recovery menu. Is there a particular update.zip that I need to install?
