Root Netfilter/IPTables on CM7 m860 Rom

After trying to get transparent proxying working via orbot in the m860 I did some research and found the most likely culprit as to why it doesn't work is either an out of date iptables or the roms don't have netfilter built into the kernel.

Does anyone know if netfilter is built into any of the CM7 ascend roms?
Is the issue as easy as updating the iptables files within the system?
