I was just wondering if any of you knew when Netflix plans to catch up? I just got an Asus Transformer and one of its biggest selling points for me was the fact that I could stream Netflix on it. After I get it I find out that the Netflix App is only available on a handful of devices running Android. I have been over to Netflix site and followed some of the newer posts on their blog but there is no real information that helps me understand when the release will be made. Any ideas? Is there maybe a way to get Netflix without the "official" app? I have seen a couple of "unofficial" apps in the market but am kind of scared to try them. Suggestions, please.

Try just going to netflix.com and doing it old school browser style.

I tried that but it takes me to an error page that says I need to be running Windows XP or higher (or some Mac information), have a minimum of ??? RAM and so on and so forth. It recognizes the fact that this is a tablet and not an actual Windows (or Mac) computer.

It runs fine on my rooted (CM7, Android 2.3) Nook Color. If you Google it you'll find the apk to sideload.

I don't mean to sound stupid but what is an apk and what is sideloading?

Apk is the file extension for android apps. Sideloading means copying the netflix.apk to your microSD card and installing the app from there as opposed to downloading the apk from the Android Market.

RiverOfIce gave a link to where to download the apk and copy to your SD card.

This is what I find when I follow that link:

"Flash attached zip in recovery to gain working Netflix. Requires latest version of the Netflix app. Only tested on Honeycomb 3.1 (Prime 1.5). I can't swear this won't cause unforeseen problems....use at your own peril."

To begin, it says I need the latest version of the Netflix App. The market will not allow me to download the app because it says it is not compatible with my device. Any suggestions? Also, have you tried this? I am worried with the last sentence warning me about unforseen problems. I do not know much of anything yet about Android so I do not know how to fix a problem if one arises.

That is if you want to give the Asus native support by tricking Netflix into thinking it is a Xoom tablet. Did you try just downloading the netflix.apk above that to see if it would work for you?

Okay, thanks for going into more detail. I can follow that link from my transformer, download the file, and then run it with no problems? I do not have an SD card in my transformer yet, though. Will that cause a problem? I have loads of free space still (about 30 GB).

Let me move this to the Asus forum. Maybe you can get the help you need.

The problem is that the Netflix app will not work on the Transformer without rooting the device. I really don't want to root the device so I guess I'll just have to wait until Netflix finally catches up.
