    Hey all,

I'm new to the whole android thing, so please stick with me.

is there different model numbers for carriers or is it just locked to frequencies?

    would rooting help?

    Welcome to Android Forums!

Carrier-branded handsets have the same model number, but are often SIM-locked to the one network. If this lock is removed then the DZ should operate on any GSM frequency afaik.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers Slug,

Would rooting help unlock, or do I need to do the take it to an unlock store thing?

The lock can be removed after rooting with .gfree, but if all you want is an unlocked handset it's probably safer and less stressful to purchase an unlock code tbh.
