Just switched from a blackberry bold to a new DX and WOW! this thing is awesome. I never really took the time to learn the blackberry or take advantage of what it could do, but I want to actually use the DX for all it's worth. The DX is just so much more inviting and friendly when it comes to browsing and using apps. I had never even looked into apps or anything until two days ago when I got this phone.

I've loaded a few apps from the market including Advanced task Killer(which i'm now reading is useless), the barcode scanner, weather channel, pandora...etc My question now is about launchers. It looks like it comes down mostly to launcher pro or ADW, but I'm not even sure if I need one. Which brings me to my actual questions which are.

    1. What will the launcher allow me to do?
    2. Do I need to take any special precautions before installing?
    3. I see a ton of themes and stuff for ADW and Go Launcher in the market but not much for launcher pro. However with the number of people running LP it has to have good content, so where is it?

    Seperate topic:

    1. Where do I get the Android Icons?

I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions in the upcoming weeks, but I look forward to taking advantage of everyones knowledge.... I suppose I should put off the rooting questions for a while....lol

Launchers allow you to have custom docks, animations, landscape views, etc. Try ' em out and pick ur fave.

Thanks for all the links.... some really good information.

If you put all that work into setting this stuff up and then root the phone do you have to start over?

You can also down load multiple launchers and see which ones you like. I have LPP and Go Launcher EX. I am liking Go Launcher EX right now as we are waiting for a update for LPP. You can download homeswitcher from the market and use it to tryout each launcher to figure out which one you like.

I was like you a few months ago, you will be back asking how to root your phone soon and then move on to custom ROMs.

I like the Facebook widget for LauncherPro Plus, but I just bought ADW Launcher EX because it allows me to increase the size of my launcher icons. I tried using Desktop Visualizer, but using it for 12+ individual icons makes the phone lag.

Both are really good, Go Launcher EX is good as well.

I personally really like GoLauncher. I used to use Launcher Pro, and probably will give it another shot once the dev is done with the total rewrite. But until that tine comes I personally feel like LP has too many bugs.

    But, thats just me.

I agree, my DX was usless with LPP constant forse closes and freezing. With Go Launcher EX I have had no problems!

I posted the question on LPP forum and never got a reply so I figured they were not that worried about trying to help me.

Go Launcher for me also. I also use Circle Launcher with it. Nice combo. I used Launcher Pro for quite a while and it is fine but Go just fits me better....for now.

Only app I want from BB is the Battleship Game(War Ships by Golden Thumbs). It was on a small grid with just 3 ships. The game played very fast and you played against other people. It was so fun watching new players get frustrated :) . You could 'TXT' each other during a game and that was fun unless you got some idiot. But for the most part it was a blast to play. Someone please port this game over!

Anyway, welcome to Android. Have fun!
