That apk replaces your old google voice.. Any idea how that might affect the funcionality of google voice? When a new version comes out will you still get updates?

Seems exactly the same. Just two new widgets. One control widget and a 3x1 summary widget.

Just a warning to those who are still using the old version of Google Voice with Verizon's Friends & Family and are thinking of updating:

The newer versions of Google Voice use dedicated numbers for each of your contacts instead of calling out using a centralized server number. What this means is that you can no longer put in your Google Voice outgoing server number on your Friends & Family plan to get free calls. That's why I have not updated to the newer version of GV on the Droid X nor will I install this ripped version from the G2. The one advantage, however, is that outgoing calls should start faster since the GV app does not need to contact the GV server - it just calls the direct number that it assigns to each contact. The disadvantage, of course, is that you lose the Friends & Family single number for outgoing calls.

Depends on when you downloaded it. The version I am running (which still works the old way) is 0.3.4(#13). The version currently downloadable from the Market is 0.4.0.12 and definitely uses the newer method of dialing. Te version ripped from the G2 almost certainly also uses the newer method.

There's no way of telling how long Google will continue letting us use the older version this way, but until they do, I'm sticking with it.

I have attached the APK for the older version of Google Voice. Note that I obtained this from a thread in a forum for Google Voice and have not checked it. Since the app is free, I didn't see a problem attaching in here, but mods feel free to delete if it is a violation.

Do I need to un-install the newer version first or will this version simply replace the newer one during the install process?

You will need to uninstall first as you cannot "upgrade" to an older version.
