Hi everyone! My name is Shane (obviously) and I live in good ol' SE Texas.

Last week, I was finally able up upgrade to the phone I've been lusting over: the Samsung Droid Charge at Verizon. I'm moving up (way up) to this phone from a Blackberry Curve! I must say, the learning curve has not been as steep as I originally thought. Android is a very nice intuitive OS, and now, after having this phone for a week, the hot wife wants to upgrade her BB Curve to a Droid as well (we have her Droid X on order :D )!

I'm an electronics technician by trade and dable quite a bit in computers. I'm familiar with Windows and OS X but my soft spot is Linux which is the main thing that drew me to Android originally. So far, I'm in heaven! I honestly have not found a thing this phone cannot do yet! All the limitations I had with the Curve are gone. GONE, I say!

Anyway, thanks for letting me introduce myself. I've been doing much lurking already, trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can.

    Welcome to Android Forums!

The first thing you should do is head over to the Droid Charge forums so you can get acquainted with other charge owners. I dare say by your introduction that you'll be looking into rooting in no time, so here's the forum for that.

While you're at it, you may want to go get the Android SDK. Lots of useful stuff there.

    Thanks. :)

    Thank you, sir!

Been lurking over there at the Charge forum even before I got my Charge. :D And yes, you are correct in that I'm going to try my hand at rooting. I'm trying to do as much reading as I can first though. I do still have a few questions that I haven't found answers to yet across the interwebs, but I'm seeking first before asking. If I can't find the answers, I'll definitely fire up a thread.

Once again, thank you for the welcome and guidance! :D

    Welcome to AndroidForums, Shane!

Seen a lot of new folks from Texas recently...or its possible that the good folks from Texas are very proud of their state and want to list it in their location, eh? :) ;)

The Droid Charge is supposed to be a beast of a phone (yes, you do detect a twinge of jealously on my part ;)).

Glad you finally signed-up. You've probably already seen what a great place AF is...hope you find everything you are looking for.

    Cheers!
