I flashed the radio update on OMFGB. I was actually pretty happy with the radio released with FroYo but what the heck, right?

No ill effects so far. I get good service in my house so I won't really know until tomorrow if I see better reception/throughput.

Is there an MD5 for the radio file?

I'm on the current cm7 nightly and flashed the radio just fine.

..tell us why you think we are wrong. Perhaps point out a 2nd init ROM that is NOT based on the .340 kernel because as far as I know they all are.

there is no such thing as the .340 kernel...

2nd init ROMS are NOT based on Froyo in any way whatsoever...they are completely Gingerbread

Yes, we know it's not a .340 kernel. It's the kernel that came with the .340 release. It's perfectly reasonable to refer to this as the .340 kernel. Most people know what is meant by this, and even for those that don't know, it's not a particularly important distinction. It's only you that insists on harping on the issue over and over again.

There is no functional difference between calling it "the .340 kernel" or "the kernel that came with the .340 Android build." A gentle reminder could be made that it's not a "froyo kernel" or whatever, but blunt statements like you make are just asinine.

There is absolutely no logical reason to say anything other than a kind, helpful, "hey guys, just so you know, it's not really .340 based, it's actually just the kernel that came with FroYo."

Perhaps I am using the wrong language but the 2nd init ROMS thus far boot off of the .32 kernel that shipped with Froyo and is the reason why we have to SBF to .340 and can flash back and forth between CM7 AND Froyo ROMS and cant between CM7 and Gingerbread ROMs.

Here is the link to thread that explains it: [ROM][BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for the Droid X

And here is the part I am referring to: Some other notes:
    1. This is CYANOGENMOD 7. Thus, it is GINGERBREAD. It boots off of the .32 kernel which shipped with froyo, but that's trivial (this is the reason for flashing back to 2.3.34).
    2. So long as your other ROMs ran off of 2.3.34, you should be able to flash between them and CM7, as CM7 uses the same recovery from DX/D2Bootstrap.
    3. Most importantly. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL/RUN DROIDXBOOTSTRAP OR DROID2BOOTSTRAP WHILE RUNNING CM7. IF YOU IGNORE THIS YOU WILL HAVE TO SBF YOUR DEVICE. CM7 has been engineered to reboot into recovery by either a.) using adb to get into a shell and typing "reboot recovery", or b.) simply holding the power button until the global action menu comes up, and then selecting "Reboot", "Recovery". There is no need for DX/D2Bootstrap and running them will mess up the 2nd-init process.
So my post was meant to reflect the above and the person I was directing it to clearly understood what I meant.

Good members.. several posts in this thread have been edited for removal of rudeness to one another. I'd like to keep this thread open, and I'd like to see the members who are bickering with one another not receive infractions and/or worse.

Let's turn this thread around, please.

Looks like I missed all the drama, too bad.

In any event, I flashed the new radio on the latest build of CM7 with no issues. Will report back tomorrow as to whether or not it has improved anything.

Thanks bro I may try this tomorrow if I have time. I just went back to CM7 today, and I've been a flashing maniac lately, so would like to spend a few days with CM7 before I flash this.

Thanks for the detailed install process!

The directions I posted above has worked several times now. I SBFed several times to make sure they are accurate. This thing was a bugger to get working so hopefully you have better luck than I started with. My X feels a bit faster but that could be that its a fresh install. As far as the radio goes I do seem to be getting fair to good signal in my basement where before it was poor. Will post any other changes I find.

Tried 5 times before and I kept getting stuck at the M bootscreen. I tried it your way, exactly as you stated and it finally worked. Thank you so much. I had so many issues with the .596 OS that I had to revert back to .340 for everyday use. Hopefully this fixes the issues I was having so that I can stay on Gingerbread.

Sounds awesome brother, thanks. So you are running the leak, or just the new radio? Is it still Android 2.3.3?

no its not reasonable, because its false...and does nothing more than help spread misinformation...

the difference is that it should be called what it actually is, as to avoid confusion

like i said...its been explained a million times already

By flash do you mean like a rom or using the 10 step process listed above?

I am running the full leak. It is still 2.3.3. Only thing I can see for sure that is new is the radio. I seem to be getting -5 dBm to -10 dBm better signal than previous. It is faster and smoother for sure but can't say if that's just from the fresh install or the new build.

The important part here is formatting system. If you wipe data and cache you should be fine without formatting data and cache, but it doesn't hurt to do so. Once you format system you must remember to remount it before applying the leak.

Also the formatting order isn't important (6. Once in mounts format system, format data, format cache in that order.) I usually do it in reverse order that you did it in (format cache, format data, format system) ;)

All things equal I would agree but for whatever reason just doing a wipe of data/cache and formatting system would not work, I had to format all three. The only reason I specfied the order is because it worked each time I tried it and after a dozen or so SBF's I wasn't going to try and see if the order mattered. :D

OK so I just yesterday I flashed the 2 part 596 rooted, can I flash the .602 over it or do I have to sbf back and start over?

I got .602 installed. My first impressions:

    1) It's even smoother then before. The home screen scrolling is almost as smooth as a 3rd party launcher. Almost.
    2) The baseband .13P gives me a little better signal it seems. Previously I was getting 1 bar in my apartment. Now I am showing 3. Make a phone call and didn't have any issues with connection.
    3) Keyboard lag is almost gone. Still a small amount of lag there, but much improved.
    4) One of the widely reported issues is still there. The camera defaults to widescreen instead of the setting of which you have left it.
    5) LED key hard lights are still busted. They go off and won't come back on under some conditions.

I will add more as I explore.

Here is the site for some of the issues I am looking for.

The only way it seems to work is to SBF and start over. The directions posted by TBH said you could flash both the .340 all in one installer and then this new all in one installer before leaving clockwork. I couldnt get that method to work and neither could many others so SBFing seems to be the only way to go for now.
