Help new "places" feature after maps update

So i like the new "places" feature on my apps list after maps update. Does anyone know why its not part of the car dock interface? Is it the same search functionality u find when i search in the navigation program? I'd rather use the new "places" layout though....its more like a traditional gps... do i just move that into the empty square on the navigation screen? Also i guess im confused if using that feature (maps) is the same as going through the car dock "navigation"...?
