I'm new to the android world. I came over from a blackberry, can anyone tell me if there is a profile app that can distinguish email notification from a sms text notification, like turn one off and leave one on? Or is the notification sound all one sound only? Also how do you make a downloaded sound a notification? I have the HTC DESIRE through Alltel. Please help! Thanks!

Most email programs will have custom notifications in the settings. You should be able to change the notification sound right in the app itself.

The stock SMS program uses the system notification sound. If you install Handcent SMS (or most other non-stock SMS apps), you can customize your notifications directly within that app.

If you want to use a downloaded audio file as a notification, put it on your sdcard under /media/audio/notifications.

    Hope that helps.

I will try that thanks! How about when you use a profile manager like Quick Profile will it keep the sms and email notifications separate then?

I've never used that particular app... but IMHO, "profiles" on an Android phone don't work as well as profiles on a Blackberry. I manage everything via Tasker. Its a pretty advanced program, so if you want to give it a shot, be prepared to spend some time using it...

I use Quick Profiles, and yes....using that app will still keep them separate. It also enables you to set the volumes individually, which I really liked.
