ROMs New ROM for Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (GT-P7510)?

Hopefully this is the appropriate place to post this.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1, Model GT-P7510, running Android 3.2.

I am trying to update it to the latest stable Android version (preferably a rooted version without all the lock-in crap), which I believe is 4.4.4. There's a tone of information online, but much is very version+device specific, outdated, has broken links, etc. I've been trying to piece together the steps as best as possible.

So far, I have downloaded a program call Odin, that can be used to flash the device. I used Odin to flash a file called "recovery-cwn_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5". It flashed successfully, and I believe that this file installed something called "Clockwork" which is a utility for installing other files.

Everything I've read said you need to root the device before you can install new ROMS, so I attempted to do this by dragging over a zip file, "Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip". I used clockwork to install it and rebooted.

But it does not appear to have worked. I have now read that this only works on 3.1 devices and not on 3.2 devices. I have read that the only way to root a 3.2 device is to install a ROM that is pre-rooted.

So two issues- First, I can't seem to drag .zip files over to the device anymore. It says, "cannot copy item - the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". Renaming the file with a .fake extension allows it to be copied. Trying to rename it back to .zip after the copy gets ignored. I can't tell if this is a glitch or a security "feature", but I can't get zips on the tablet anymore so I need to find someway to fix this.

The other problem is just finding the right ROM. Is there some way to get a recent rooted android as an Odin compatible ROM? I imagine that a simple flash would overwrite everything and fix the .zip copy glitch. But the problem is most of the roms I've found are zips to be installed on the device, not flashed via Odin.
