HTC - Developer Center
new source code for eris. What does this mean
HTC released the source code for the Eris' kernel (operating system code basically). HTC is obligated to do that under the GPL, since the OS is based on Linux. This is mainly for coders, hackers or the "overly curious". The best benefit is it should be easier to gain "root" status by finding exploits that we know exist in the code, instead of blindly trying different things.
It means maybe they can get this phone rooted now.
Actually it is the kernel source code ( i think) for the Droid Eris for developers to use on their pohone when developing apps for the Droid Eris, only usable on special developers phones. I believe it can be used to help get root status for our phone also, but I am not a developer or programmer...soooooo *shrug*
I hope they can root it and possibly this will help with app/rom development for the eris.
