I'm on O2 UK and have just finished installing the ICS upgrade, first impressions are good especially the display. I currently have Four Colours live wallpaper installed and the difference is amazing.

Before the upgrade the changes between colours were blocky and very noticeable whereas they are now smooth and seamless. If this were to be the only improvement then I would be happy, as it is there's still more to be explored :)

Part of me thinks I'm glad I'll have to wait that maybe they'll iron some of the bugs out...

Ahhhh who am I kidding, I'll be installing it the second it's released for unbranded phones!
Then I'll be on here bitching and moaning with everyone else about the bugs ;)

So how is the o2 ICS? Any bugs?

Im a little worried that three and o2 have rushed the release to keep customers happy but its not been fully tested for bugs, the unbranded UK ICS is still work in progress which in a way is good news because I like to think this means bugs are being ironed out and tested

My phone was o2 branded when new but i flashed an unbranded Rom

I'm tempted to try the o2 ICS, is the o2 ICS on xda yet?

    Its ok... not great.

I have the official Samsung desk stand which used to display a nice clock on my bed side table, that is now gone. switching between Internet pages is jerky. it doesn't remember your home screens and app folders so it takes an hour or more of messing around to get all that back. its crashed a few times already. they've changed the 'contacts' and 'phone' apps now, so whereas before you could just click on 'phone' and your contacts would be displayed, now they are not. so now you need to go through 'contacts' to find someone to call and through 'phone' for your recently dialed numbers. why they have separated this is beyond me, they should be combined into one app.

some other menus are better, like the way videos are displayed.

all in all, some parts are better and some parts are worse. depends whats more important to you.

    Thanks doobee very helpful

can someone point me in the right direction for the most recent gingerbread UK unbranded firmware that's available (not carphone warehouse csc)

Im asking because I have a German csc at the moment, i need the latest UK csc so i can update to to ICS when it becomes available on kies, I don't mind a temp loss of root

Some parts are more smooth, but it crashes more often for me. But I quite like the new menus, but when typing text or something it's all slow. I'm just finding a way to root it again lol

Although it won't help with your history, with ICS you can download Chrome Beta from the Play Shop. It is far better than either Dolphin or the standard browser in my opinion.

Upgraded to ICS (O2-UK) the day it came out and overall it seems good. Chrome Beta is great, with lots of useful goodies if you use chrome on your pc, but has frozen a couple of times. Other than that it seems to work great, face unlock is a bit of a gimmick (if you're trying to show it off to people, try not to do it with a big grin on your face, or you'll look stupid when it doesn't work). Performance seems good, browser feels faster, but that's just a general feeling and the built in data monitor saves downloading 3rd party apps for this (yet to see how accurate it is, but it seems roughly in line with the My O2 app, allowing for a few days difference in start date). Quadrant also shows a 20-25% increase over 2.3.5 (I can upload screenshots if I can work out how).

I know the update is non wipe, but just to be safe I did a full system wipe before the update (possibly unnecessary, but its a good excuse to get rid of unused apps and should prevent most of the issues some people have reported with ICS, having to resort to a factory reset to improve reliability and performance.

    Hope someone finds this useful

    EDIT
Just worked out how to add photos, so here are the quadrant scores as promised

Have you managed to or had the need to find a way of rooting this version yet? I want to keep with the same stock rom, not fussed about custom roms. Mainly for app management more than anything (removing bloat) although you can now disable apps in ICS.

My phone was rooted before the update and Kies recognised it fine so I know this isn't an issue now.

I haven't looked at rooting because I want to keep my warranty and haven't wanted to do anything badly enough to risk it. Disabling apps seems to work ok once you work out how to do it (Settings - applications - all - select app - hit disable. Thus only works on pre installed apps. Anything you have installed will have the option to uninstall, rather than disable.

wouldn't hold my breathe if i were you. tm are notorious for dragging their feet when it comes to updating.
could be wrong but i understand that ics doesn't allow branding so hopefully won't be as bad in medium to long term...

    Just saw this on Facebook.
Make of it what you will.

"Dear Mark Samsung UK announced that ICS updates would start to be available from the week commencing 19th March and this would continue over a period of weeks as each version came on line. We have never stated that all versions applicable to the GSII would be available immediately as there are prolonged testing and approval processes for each version that have to be met by all parties. We are still on schedule with the update process and i can advise you that the non network branded version is currently planned to be released via Kies from 30th March, but this schedule may still be subject to changes. As each version comes online we will update Facebook, Twitter followers to let them know. Kind regards Ben Pearce Executive Office SAMSUNG"
