new tires

    im gonna be getting new tires this febuary on my silverado. what i have now is mickey thomson baja radial mtx. what i was thinking about getting is BFG All terrain. there $250 to $280 a piece. also i have 16" wide rims. there 12" wide instead of the stock 10". any one have any suggestions on what i should get or you thin the bfgs are good?

    I think it all depends on where you will be driving. If you are going to be on the road more than off the road then the BFG's are the way to go. I ran BFG'S for years, but i have a 2 wheel drive, i loved the BFG'S,great tread ware, i had 295 50r 15's 10 in. Wide rotated them every 3 thousand miles, did alot of burnouts and still got almost 30 k miles out of them.

    But if your going to be off road alot they're not to good in the mud. I've been out of the off road picture for quite some time now, i went from 8 inches of lift on my old 77 chevy to a 2/4 drop on my 92 chevy.

    If off roading, you need tires that will clean themselves out when in the mud. Back when i had my 1980 Jeep cj7 it was in the mud 95% of the time, i ran Denman ground hogs, now that was a good mud tire, i rarely got that thing stuck in the mud, but they were real noisy on the highway.

    So it all depends on what type of terrain you'll be driving the most!

    I would mostly be driving around bit I need them too last. I was also looking into possibly replacing them with a set of 33". Do they have them in wide rims? It'll give me more power which is an issue because my little 4.8l vortec is doggy with the 35"s

    Yea you can get any size you want nowadays. I think you'll be happy with the BFG'S as long as you rotate them every 3000 miles they should last.

    I don't know about those BFGs. I had a set on my Toyota truck a few years ago, and they held the road great, but mine did not wear like iron. They lost tread depth like it was going out of style.
    My understanding has always been that if they last, they don't grip as well. Hard rubber lasts longer, but can't conform to the road surface as well, and softer rubber grips great, but wears quickly.
    I loved my A/T BFGs anyway. They were so much quieter and smoother than the mud tires that came on the truck.

    Has anyone had any luck with Goodyear wranglers or Firestone destination all terrain? I've took a peak at tirerack and still don't really know what I want too get. Kinda leaning to the bfgs but I like the look of the Goodyear wranglers

    I looked at BFGs on a Cherokee but went with General Grabber AT instead because they were cheaper and worked better on wet pavement. Wear was good.

    My LT came with Falken ZE-912 tires that the previous owner had replaced the stock tires with. These are good, all-weather tires and they've been good all-around tires for a 4x4 that almost never leaves the pavement. By chance, I bought a set of Falken UHP tires for my Mustang, and was very happy with them, so I trust the brand pretty well by now. I thought about getting dedicated snow/ice tires for the wintertime, but so far the all-season tires have been good enough with the 4WD system.

    If long wear life is your most important thing, then you might want to look at the high pressure (>70PSI) light truck tires that I see on rental trucks and vans. Light truck drivers often use passenger car tires for a better ride, but they don't last as long as true LT tires do.

    Since you're in snow country like me, I'd avoid wide "meatball" tires. They may look cool, but the wide contact patch hurts performance in the rain and especially the snow. I'd stay away from low profile tires also. A tall sidewall will protect you from rocks and other unseen snow-covered hazards. Keep your truck a truck! ;)

    Discount Tire Direct is good as well. They will actual beat the price of any competing website. All you have to do is provide them w/ a link from the competing website & they will beat the price. I ordered the Michelin MXV4's I have on my Acura now from Discount Tire b/c they beat Tire Racks price by $30.00.

    Pirelli*P Zero Nero All Season

    I just ordered 4 of these from Tire Rack today as I am in need of new tires. Unfortunately, Discount Tire did not carry them, so I had to go w/ Tire Rack.

    I have always been a big Pirelli fan so I'm really looking forward to getting them :driver:

    How you like those Pirelli Zeros?
    Reason I ask, Mustang owners bitch about them online like they are the worst tire ever. Mine came with Bridgestone's, but I see stock wheels with Zeros on them for 100 bucks each with under 1500 miles often. With my stang being a manual, I might need to pick up a set of them after mine get slick!!!!

    I love 'em. A lot of the user reviews complained of road noise, but I haven't experienced that at all. Very smooth ride & great in the rain. Highly recommend. I actually just got done shining 'em up today. Ain't they pretty. :p
