I have had my Huawei Ascend for 3 days now (I'm with Metro PCS, incase that's important). The first night the wifi was great! However, since then I cannot get it to connect, no matter where I go. Yes, I went to Settings/Wireless&Networks/Wi-Fi... It's checked ON. I've tried re-setting my router (and the others I've tried to connect to), so I don't think it's that. When I try to connect, it says "obtaining IP address from (insert network here)" but it never goes any further, it just says "Failed". Am I missing something??? A little advice would be very much appreciated! :)

Stupid question I'm asking here, but have you tried rebooting your phone yet?

You are correct sir! Just power it off, then back on. Let us know the results, if you would.

No worries, my apologies for not just saying "on/off", would have been less confusion.

Thanks for the suggestion, guys, but it didn't work

It still won't go any further than attempting to obtain IP address.

In that case, I'll recommend trying one thing before going back to the store: a full factory reset. This will wipe all data, including anything you've downloaded and installed, and put the phone back to the same state it was in when you got it. The process is this:

Turn off the phone, then press and hold the Volume Up, Send, and Power buttons. Release all three AFTER phone vibrates. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, choose Yes, then wipe cache partition, choose yes again, then select reboot phone when that is complete.

If you don't want to try this, then I'd recommend going back to the store and seeing what they can do, which may include this step of troubleshooting, so save any contacts, etc, that you want to keep just in case.

What about going into the wifi settings and press and hold on your SSID and tell the phone to Forget this network

Then reconnect to your own network?

anyone having this problem in the future ***

It could also be Metro updating their system, expanding coverage or you may simply call and have your phone's data connection reset and that often fixes the problem!
Check with your service provider first! :p

I had the same problem... Turns out it wasn't my phone. I had too many things attached to my router. A Blu Ray player, A Roku box, 2 Laptops, A Nook, One desktop computer and my phone... Once I disconnected the Nook and rebooted the router I connected just fine. Check it out before you do the hard reset.. Could save you a lot of time...
