Root New to Incredible

My friend had been using z4 root to temporarily root his phone. Has been fine till a few days ago. I'm going to try a factory reset. If this does not work. On my droid x I just RSD light. put my phone in boot mode and sbf. back to total stock and all is well. What would it take to do the same on this device?
