How do you feel using the external battery vs. using an extended battery? Just want your opinion, as this is the reason I'm going external over extended for myself.

All I know is looking at the price, now its $20 cheaper...my 2800 mAh extended for me Droid 1 cost $70. This is a waaay better deal for the price and size of the battery, even if it is external. And it looks so small... win/win IMHO. I will use the 11,000 for all current and future phones I have. Removable batteries or not.
