Check your phone for an update. I just installed it but I have no idea what it does?
Few questions for you. Which carrier? Did you have you phone up to date with updates before this update? What is your new firmware version?
I just checked my updates. Under HTC Software Updates, I have an update that appears. I will post a couple screenshots in a few moments. I have a rooted device running a non-stock ROM, and as it may cause issues, I will not be updating. But the screenshots may at least shed some light on this update.
I'm on Boost and yes, it was up to date on the latest stock firmware prior to the update.(stock)
Software number is currently 1.11.653.0.710RD
Here we go. This is the update. It looks like it's an update for Sense, but don't take my word on that. There are a couple of reasons I think it's a Sense update. First, our device uses Sense 3.5 and this update shows a 3.5.2218382464.448397 version. Second, and this reason is more of a support to the first, is that it shows as a security enhancement to the personalize application, which I believe is Sense.
I got this yesterday night. Installed it. Nothing changed that I can tell. It did install successfully. I'm still rooted, still using my tethering apps. No harm that I can see from here.
I was told it's probably a patch for a single apk, but I'm looking further into it. I didn't find any apk's in my system\app folder, but since I don't know my way around Android that well, that could mean the apk could be somewhere else. I'm going to download the update, and have a look at whatever file or folder is downloaded.
So I meant to only download it, not to run the update too. But unlike what I have seen in the past, I was not prompted after the download to run the update; the update ran automatically.
So far, I am not seeing anything different. i.e. no issues caused by the update.
However, I am using a rooted device utilizing a different ROM and kernel.
In conclusion. Using my modded device, I do not see any changes that will seriously alter your phone. So far, I see no signs of it affecting rooted devices, and have not heard of issues with non-rooted devices. It likely will not affect anybody with interest in rooting. This update (as far as I can tell, so no guarantees), is safe for anybody to run.
