new user, simple question

    so im new to andriod and trying to learn fast. when i plug in my phone to my laptop it just says connectino failed. is there a software i need to download??

    Go to settings-> applications-> usb settings and make sure it's on either ' ask on connection' or 'mass storage'. When you do get it to connect, your phone will ask you in a pop up box or in the notifications to mount your device. Before you get that far though, check the sticky about drivers, you'll most likely need some. And you may need to try different ports on your laptop if after the drivers it still doesn't work.

    I don't get why everyone says you need to install drivers.

    I've used my Captivate (Mass storage mode) on several computers, XP and Win7, and never had to install any drivers.

    You don't need to install drivers unless you are using USB debugging mode to root or lagfix, etc, or to do development-related tasks on the device
